Mountains of Judicial Records Across Four Benches
The High Court of Bombay — one of India's oldest and most important high courts — operates across four benches: the Principal Bench in Mumbai, and benches at Aurangabad, Nagpur, and Panaji (Goa). Over five decades, the Court accumulated millions of case files, judgments, orders, petitions, affidavits, and administrative records stored in massive physical record rooms.
Locating a specific case file or judgment from decades past required staff to physically search through vast record rooms. Cross-referencing related cases across different benches was nearly impossible. Judges and advocates faced delays in accessing precedent judgments, and the risk of deterioration of historically significant judicial records grew each year.
Key Challenges:
- Millions of physical case files across 4 benches with no centralized searchable index
- Delays in retrieving case history and precedent judgments for ongoing proceedings
- Risk of permanent loss of historically significant judicial records
- No digital workflow for new case filings and document submissions
Comprehensive E-Court Digitization
Sarthi DMS was deployed as the E-Court document management platform, covering all four benches with a unified, centralized repository. The solution addressed:
Case File Digitization
Complete scanning and OCR processing of case bundles, petitions, written submissions, affidavits, and evidentiary documents — all fully searchable by content, case number, parties, or dates.
Judgment Repository
A structured, searchable repository of all judgments and orders — enabling AI-powered legal research to find precedents, cite related judgments, and trace the evolution of legal interpretations.
Cross-Bench Access
Judges and authorized staff at any bench can securely access case files and judgments from any other bench — unified search across Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur, and Goa.
E-Filing Integration
New case filings and submissions flow directly into the DMS, creating a seamless digital-first workflow for advocates and court staff with automated indexing and case linking.
Accelerating Justice Delivery
75% Faster Retrieval
Case files and judgments that took hours to locate physically are now retrieved in seconds through deep-content search.
AI-Powered Research

Heritage Preservation
Decades of historically significant judicial records are now permanently preserved in high-quality digital format, protected from degradation.
The E-Court document management system has transformed how our judiciary operates. Access to decades of case history is now instantaneous, significantly improving the efficiency of judicial proceedings across all four benches.
